ARTISTS Muyang DAI
Born in 2003 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China, Muyang DAI is a graduate of Nanjing Normal University, where he is currently pursuing a master's degree. His artistic practice is rooted in the tradition of figurative painting and neoclassical realism, primarily exploring portraiture, individual identity, and the expression of inner emotions.
Committed to the dialogue between traditional pictorial techniques and contemporary forms of expression, Muyang DAI develops a visual language characterized by rigorous composition, subtle chromatic nuances, and great expressive restraint. In his works, the human figure transcends mere physical representation to become a site for reflection on emotion, memory, and self-awareness. Through close attention to facial expressions, bodily attitudes, and psychological nuances, the artist examines the relationship between an individual's interiority and the perceptions society projects onto them.
His approach seeks a balance between the formal legacy of classical painting and a contemporary sensitivity to the psychological dimensions of the portrait. Through a discreet and controlled visual narrative, he aims to reveal the complexity and singularity of his subjects, while continuing to reflect on the expressive possibilities of contemporary figurative painting.
In 2026, Muyang DAI was among the one hundred artists selected for the international FIKVA competition in Belgium. That same year, he was also chosen for the final exhibition of the second edition of the Tajite art competition in Spain. These distinctions mark the first steps of international recognition for his work.
